Connecting Scripture with Real Life
How was Jesus Conceived? Why Does It Matter?
There is every reason to believe that God made the universe, as recorded in Genesis 1. God is responsible for the existence of the highly complex DNA molecule. I know some will disagree, but it certainly looks like Genesis is saying that God made humans separately from how animals all came into existence. Think about how awesome, powerful, and smart God must be. If he can make the universe, then causing one of Mary’s eggs to be fertilized with human DNA that God designed is child’s play for him. We can’t do that, but God can. If you accept that God in the person of Jesus came among us as a human, his virginal conception is not a problem at all. The Lord regularly performs miracles. This is no different. If you want to explore the idea that God still performs miracles, I suggest you read one of Craig Keener’s books on miracle, e.g., Miracles Today
What Irreverent Prayers have You Offered? Book recommendation
This book’s title grabbed my attention. The authors offer what the book title claims. There is some narrative. In one case, a story about breast cancer, the writer says that when she was in the hospital for a serious problem and could barely move, she received text messages asking if she was keeping up with Netflix. Most of the book, however, presents prayers.
How have You Responded to God’s Amazing Invitation?
What if you were invited to dine with a king or president? Imagine how you would feel if tomorrow, you received a very fancy envelope in the mail. Inside the envelope is an invitation. You are invited to have lunch with the king of England or the President of the...
When Shepherds Become Wolves
The pastor was right. Her parents said that he’s a good preacher and couldn’t be guilty of that. I’m not sure why she kept going to whatever situation enabled the pastor to do this evil—forced to attend the same church services by her parents? At eighteen, she left home and her parents didn’t understand why.
Adventures in Misinterpreting the Bible #2: Words, Words, Words
If you want to interpret the Bible correctly, here are two errors to avoid. One is word studies that do not consider all the information on a word. The second is using etymology to give a word a new meaning.
Why Do You Want the Second Coming?
It will be wonderful to have a body that won’t wear out, and I think, will be healthy. All the eye problems I have will be gone. I trust that my first vision with new eyes will be Jesus.
What You Should Know about Easter
The resurrection validated Jesus’ claim to be God and his claims about how to live for God.
Why Not to Read the Bible in a Year
What does matter, and the passages above show, is that reading and understanding Scripture is vital. It’s not just for intellectual purposes. It’s for how you live. You’ll see that I have used the word “disciple” more than “believer.” That’s because Jesus calls for people to follow him (Matt 16:24). Jesus calls us to be disciples, to follow him. One thing that disciples must do is learn. The passages above speak of learning what God wants from us.
How to Worship Like the Angels
What do we learn from these moments of praise? It’s about God, his holiness and honor and glory. These are not “gospel songs” about us, like Amazing Grace is.
Why Jesus Came, in One Sentence
Paul calls upon his audience to have the same attitude at Jesus. He humbled himself. He served others. He gave himself for others, including billions who had not yet been born. Jesus called upon people to follow him. Paul called his churches to become like Jesus. That is part of what Christmas means: serve others humbly.
